Our creative writing clubs offer a relaxed, fun, supportive space to explore all forms of creative writing from poetry to graphic novels!
Leading the way since 2010, our unique approach focuses on building confidence, strengthening friendships and connecting to the creative spark that we believe is in everybody!
All sessions are currently lead by Amanda Smith, our founder and creative maestro. Amanda has a Masters in Creative Writing and Wellbeing and many years experience working with children from all backgrounds.

My name is Amanda Smith; I’m an experienced Creative Educational Practitioner with up-to-date safeguarding training, counselling skills and full DBS checks. I set up YAC (Young Authors Clubs) in 2010, and run creative writing workshops for kids and adults across Sussex. I've always loved writing (and reading) especially magical fairy tales, so I also set up 'The Fairy Preservation Society' with my children in 2017. We created lots of fairy trails for people to enjoy and made hundreds of pledges to protect the environment and fairies!
I've recently been awarded a Masters in Creative Writing and Wellbeing. My specialist interest is in 'memoir and healing'.
I also love collaborating with other creatives to make unique experiences that feed the imagination and spark joy.
I am a regular collaborator at Theatre Royal Brighton.

We believe in Fairytales
The Fairy Preservation Society is dedicated to preserving the magic and wonder of Storytelling and Fairytales. We entwine creative activities such as story-making, poetry, crafts and performances with our love of nature and magic to create joyous fairy-themed workshops.
We run regular events at Theatre Royal Brighton, The Meeting House in Ditchling and other magical sites!
